DECISION MAKING PART 1: THE HARD WAY IS THE LORD’S WAY

August 19, 2015 Riley

We make hundreds of decisions daily, and the beauty of it is we are free to do so according to our own desires.  I have made decisions the hard way more than I would like to count.  The cliché is often said, “the most important decisions in life are the most difficult” and I agree.  It’s apparent that, to most people, picking an outfit isn’t a difficult decision.  The decisions I am talking about are the ones that will affect us in the long run.  Lately I have had many decisions to make and I can honestly say the answers are in my heart and mind.  I believe the Lord wants us to succeed and He speaks to us so that we can progress. ( I have spoken about the way God speaks to us in prior posts, Click Here and Click Here for the articles.) He speaks to us all differently and I can feel His voice in my heart when I am receiving an answer.  I have a habit to put off these impressions because they are not what I want to do at the moment.  When I feel I need to pick A, I stick with B.  The outcome for me is the same, I end up choosing what God originally wanted me to but only after I have suffered.

It’s a funny concept to me; going to my Heavenly Father in sincere prayer for guidance and when the answer comes I say never mind.  I can only imagine how frustrating that is for Him.  I want to do what the Lord asks of me but a lot of the time it is difficult to come through for Him.  The thing about it is, we don’t have His mind.  We don’t know His thoughts.  He knows the end from the beginning, when He councils us to do something, it is going to benefit us no matter what.  “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9)

Why is it at times I deny the Lords direction?  I believe it is because it is uncomfortable for me.  It seems hard so I try to run to avoid having to complete the task at hand.  I don’t feel ready to do it, so I wait till I am ready.  I get upset when I deny the guidance of God because I want to do everything He asks of me.  His plan is perfect, therefore, why would I want to stray from it? It drives me crazy when I do this.  I am now understanding that when I finally make the decision I have been dreading, the pay off is amazing.  I feel accomplished, fulfilled, and I can tell that God is pleased.  I believe God is in every detail of our lives and will be there to show us our true potential.  When I say no to His counsel I am saying no to my happiness.   God’s way is the hard way because it is the right way.

The easy things in life only provide instant gratification not lasting happiness.  God’s ways are going to provide a firm foundation to build on and keep growing.  These decisions not only produce the results that both the Lord and you want, but you also get a confirmation He really is helping you succeed.  What a blessing!  To be able to feel that God is aware and more importantly involved in our lives.  Where is the down side there?  Passing through a stage of being uncomfortable to a lasting progression is worth it.  It’s obvious no one really desires hard times, neither does God, however He does requires them.  I promise that when we take action and choose to listen to God’s guidance even if it isn’t a part of our plan, we will be grateful.  When we ask for an answer we should be willing to follow through with what we are asked to do.  It doesn’t make much sense to beg for a car and then say I’d rather walk.  God gives according to His will and our desires.  As the scripture says, “For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.  Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?.” (Matthew 7:8-10)

These decisions are intended to build our faith and make us better.  All our Heavenly Father wants is to promote faith and uncertainty promotes faith if we act.  If you knew the outcome of a decision you would have no power to grow.  These decisions we are faced with make us stronger when we act.  It is known that most successful people make a decision quickly then act, which takes more faith than the average person who is tossed back and forth by the waves of the world in their boat of indecisiveness.  The Lord has set out on a mission to help us shoot for the stars and surpass them,  His guidance is essential.  Let’s all listen and act. No more putting off His answers till we have suffered enough to act.  We will be better when we listen then act in the same motion.

Be happy.
