Flawed

I haven’t felt much like writing lately. I have had a hard time finding my voice because I’ve been too painfully aware of my flaws. I certainly don’t have everything figured out, so I have felt like, “who am I to put my ideas out there or give anyone advice about anything?” But I realized that this goes against what I profess to believe, and I remembered what Colin and Riley said on their recent podcast about being able to connect with their audience by sharing material as they themselves learn it. So I started writing anyway, and this is what I came up with: we are all always going to have flaws. While we strive to improve ourselves and reach our potential, we still have to accept that reality and not let it stop us from trying. Our flaws don’t negate the strengths we have that others can benefit from. We are all learning, and none of us is perfect, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have something to offer. Whoever you are, reading this right now—you have something to offer. You probably even know what it is. If you don’t, that’s okay, but if you do, don’t let your imperfections stop you from sharing it! Otherwise, you are robbing the world of your unique gift. If I can reach someone with that message today, and we can learn (or re-learn) it together, then that is more than enough reason for me to keep writing, despite my numerous shortcomings. In fact, it might even give me the encouragement I need to work on them :).

“We are all teachers; we all have people who trust us and need our message. We must not let fear prevent us from being who we are…. We must not wait for perfection.” – John C. Conley
