OF BLISS AND BLAMELESSNESS

If you’re anything like me you want to be perfect just as our Savior said in Matthew 5:48 “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”  I can’t tell you the internal battle that goes on within me to try and obey this commandment.  It is a fight I deal with everyday and it’s what I call my Gethsemane.  We all have our very own Garden of Gethsemane, it’s where we can’t anymore and ask for another way out rather than suffering along with Christ.  This article is written for me, the faithful striving to perfect themselves, the doubting spirit, and all that hang their heads in guilt.  I know many people that are trying to make sense of the Gospel or their very own lives.  I am constantly trying to make it through.  I am a person who wants nothing more than to do the will of my Father in Heaven, it has caused me so much heartache in the process.  That being said it has introduced me to the greatest joy I have ever experienced.  We all suffer in different ways, it’s the law of relativity.  For example, for me it is easy to obey certain commandments but for some it is a struggle to even want to obey them.

I feel a deep and profound desire to be perfect, or complete like my Savior and it is such a weight on my shoulders, at times I don’t know how to handle it.  I feel so guilty and infinitely inadequate because I fall short of what I think God expects of me.  I have wanted to give up and just say it would be much easier if this or if that and so on.  I now think differently those who are struggling to do the will of God, trying to obey, finding the why behind their beliefs, or wanting to change their destiny.

I pose this question, how can we be blamed if we are supposed to be imperfect?  I answer this by saying we cannot nor are we.  We are blameless because trial and error were the terms and conditions we agreed to when God presented us the Plan of Salvation or Plan of Happiness.  We agreed to come here to learn and enter into the Kingdom of God as trained gods I find that plan blissful, and bliss is the perfect state of happiness.  How great is it that we get to fall, whether we chose to or not, we will are able to stand up and walk uprightly before our Father in Heaven.  It is okay that there are shortcomings, it’s actually the way to get back to the Father.  Through Jesus Christ we are invited to repent and become better.  If mistakes were not a reality, Jesus Christ would not have needed to condescend to Earth and suffer.

We are not blamed for being imperfect, for doubting, for being scared, for making mistakes, for anything really because we have the Atonement of Jesus Christ that is all encompassing for our eternal perfection. We are allowed to make mistakes, all we need to do is choose to be better and strive to not commit that same folly. That is a process of error and repentance. I believe in the Plan of Happiness and that it is designed for us to be imperfect and only through our imperfections may we become perfect. Jesus Christ atoned for our eternal bliss and for us to stay blameless before God if we repent and strive to do what is asked. We need not be perfect right now because we will get there! I say hold your head up and just believe.  How beautiful is this Gospel!

“Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.” -2 Peter 3:14
